How does one quickly update the list of imap folders?

I was hoping F5 or so would just do it, but Thunderbird keeps downloading (how can that be stopped? - stop button does not work) inbox messages, but updating folder lists seems to require a restart.

Solution choisie

The quickest way is to close and reopen ThunderBird, which is kinda clumsy. A simple F5 on the main mbx folder should update the folders, while being in a folder should update that folder, basically always calling one level down (could be configured to do more/less with shift f5 etc).
