This Win 7 PC has been off-line for 4 months. When switched on FF updated from V38.5 to V45.2 (64Bit) Everything worked except the Native PDF plugin. I've gone through all the on-line fault finding, (enable/disbale the plugin, remove mime types file and restart, ensure that the application is set as display in FF, etc) but it refuses to work. I've disabled all the add-ons apart from the pdf plug-in but still nothing, the link doesn't even come up in the url window.

To get around this I've downloaded Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and pdfViewerSwitcher ( 0.8.2 : jid1-UXDr6c69BeyPVw@jetpack) and these seems to work OK. However this is far from ideal as I'd prefer not to have Acrobat on this PC.

Any ideas or are there any other PDf Plug-ins which work ?

Thanks.

Firefox 45.2.0 is the current Firefox 45 release, so that is OK

I see that have have quite a few extensions and some deal with PDF.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Hi

I think as a first step, I would recommend that you update Firefox to the most recent version (47.0.1) to make sure that you have the latest security and stability fixes.

You can read more about how to update here.

Hi,

Thank you both very much for your help. Have found the issue. It was your comment "have quite a few extensions and some deal with PDF", that got me thinking. I only have the default Mozilla Labs PDF.js viewer installed.[1.0.277.1] ??!! But I don't need this in 64bit Firefox do I ? This must have got transferred across from my old 32 bit V38 when I used MozBackup when upgrading/Syncing my PC.

So now I have NO pdf add-ons enabled (or installed), and PDF files are displayed correctly !!

Thank you again for your replies, most helpful.
