Server Not Found for particular website
I have recently started encountering a problem accessing Google news links from my browsers (Firefox 39.0) and IE11 that involve a particular website – telegraph.co.uk. I keep getting the message Server Not Found. The long initial browser links to all other sites (Guardian, Reuters, FT, Daily Mail etc.etc) all resolve very quickly and show the required page….but not those to telegraph.co.uk. I can, albeit very slowly, successfully connect to telegraph.co.uk links via anonymox add-on proxy server – not ideal. We have2 other laptops, another pc, 2 ipads and 4 iphones in the household and none of them have my issue. My PC runs Windows 7 Home Premium , running Norton Internet Security (22.5.0.124). I regularly run Norton Live updates and do full scans daily. I also run CCleaner daily and regularly perform Malwarebytes and Spybot scans (with browser immunisation updated). I recently updated to this version of Norton Internet Security from previous version and this may be part of the problem although another pc and laptop also updated to same version and do not experience my problem. No evidence, that I can see, of telegraph.co.uk being “blocked”.
I have tried various “fixes”, unsuccessfuly, as follows: 1) We upgraded to fibre yesterday from ADSL and had to move to new router. I had hoped that this would fix my problem, but no. Re-set new router as well, but didn’t fix. 2) In Firefox Options, Advanced, Network I have tried:
a. Clearing cached web content b. Clearing Offline web content and data c. Also tried Clear history, recent history, everything d. Connection settings were same as other pc: Use system proxy settings. I did try auto detect option but this did not fix. Have, for now, switched back to Use system proxy settings. e. Tried Firefox reset, to no avail f. Tried running Firefox in Safe mode with add-ons disabled, but did not resolve problem.
A fix to resolve this very frustrating issue would be gratefully appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

I seem to have sorted by going to Control Panel, Network & Sharing Centre, Local Area Connection, Properties, Internet Protocol Version 4, Properties and using Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server adress automatically - this later one was, for some reason, set to Use this DNS address - which seemed to be my old router!!!! New router set up obviously didnt sort this out....... Thanks for everyone who has tried to help solve. Maybe this will prove to be of use to others in future.

Hello any luck if you boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) ?
If works in windows safe mode then, probably your security software block or restrict Firefox without to informing you, try to remove all rules for Firefox from the permission list in your firewall and let it ask again for permission to get full access to internet for Firefox.

Ideato, thanks for quick response. I tried Windows Safe Mode with network support but, unfortunately, the problem with telegraph.co.uk links (Server Not Found) still persists. No problems with links to other sites from Google News or browsing in general! Bizarre. Further suggestions/solutions gratefully received.
Change the next two preference to TRUE in about:config
- network.dns.disablePrefetch
- network.dns.disableIPv6

Ideato, tried changing above to TRUE but no joy. Still Server Not Found, just for links to telegraph.co.uk...........
I am tempted to completely uninstall firefox and clear folders etc, and re-install from scratch. Will probably keep manual backup of my bookmarks so that I can import them, if fresh installation works.........
Followed Mozilla instructions re uninstalling, including folders that uninstall programs does not removed and ran ccleaner. Downloaded and installed fresh version of Firefox and....hey presto........problem still exisits, just for telegraph.co.uk links - Server Not Found Give us strength...... Really would appreciated a fix for this annoying problem. Cannot remember when I updated to latest version of firefox (39.0)......but I know that this problem has only started recently and I do not think that I was experiencing it with earlier versions....

For some reason links involving telegraph.co.uk do not seem to be resolving and lead to Server Not Found message. There are no problems with telegraph website......Just a problem my end, for some unknown reason, that doesnt allow me to link to its pages. Internet and links to all other news links work fine.......
It would seem that the problem may have something to do with the home page that I start from. The homepage that I am using is https://news.google.co.uk/ When I click through on a telegraph.co.uk news item from this page the result is Server not found
In a separate firefox tab I went to http://www.msn.com/en-gb/news When I click through to telegraph.co.uk news item from MSN there is no problem!!!
Suggestions on how to resolve this apparent issue with https://news.google.co.uk/ being used as my start point would be grately appreciated as I prefer google news to MSN as a home page....

I am not blaming firefox, merely seeking a solution to a problem that I am now experiencing. I am a subscriber to telegraph.co.uk but my issue is that i get server not found when clicking on a link to it via firefox browser.............
Clicking on the link you provided suggesting to "pay here" resulted in..............server not found!!!

Try to disable IPv6 (check for other possible causes as well).
Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that has effect.
Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

Thanks for suggestions; I have tried all above re IPV6, safe mode with networking and comprehensive scans that only came up with tracking cookies that were removed. No rootkit problems. Spyware on windows, Mozilla support troubleshoot firefox issues article was where I started before posting in community.
Seems strange that telegraph links open ok if clicked through from MSN news, but that same news article returns server not found when clicked through from google news......Bizarre....and very frustrating.
Have also raised issue in google forum but no replies (or views) there yet!
Fingers crossed a solution arrives....

It might be worth raising the matter with the Telegraph if you are paying them for a service that is not working to your satisfaction.
I might have wondered if some methods of accessing the site were prevented. However I would have thought the subscription page would be open to everyone or would possibly redirect somewhere else for those recognised to be subscribers, especially logged in subscribers.
The subscription page says
How do I get unlimited access to the Telegraph website? Once you've subscribed, simply enter your the email address and password you used when you purchased your subscription in the top right-hand corner of the website where you see 'Log in'.
Presumably you have tried those instructions, are you able to login ? Are you then able to browse the site ?
Is the problem just when using links from Google. The same pages being available if you manually type in the address instead of using the long link from Google. If so it sounds like an issue with Google and the paywall.
Thanks. Unfortunately I cannot access the telegraph.co.uk site to log in to see if it makes any difference - server not found. I have never bothered logging in to telegraph site via my pc before as all I want to do is be able to read telegraph news items from my homepage - google news. Problem certainly seems to be something in google news page/telegraph combinations as links work via MSN news. The fact that I cannot actually access telegraph.co.uk directly is very frustrating.
