Since this is a bit of a confusing release, here's my attempt to clear up the clouds. Let me know if you have more questions:
Desktop
Firefox 34.0.0
This release changes the search box UI to the new, updated version. It also adds the new Yahoo Search for Firefox users.
Firefox Hello! (It's still unstable, and we will be making some significant changes in future releases, but here it is for everyone to play with :)
We've disabled SSLv3 by default
Firefox is now signed according to Apple's new requirements
A bunch of developer changes are in this release
This will be the release that existing Firefox 33.1.1 users update to
Firefox 34.0.5
This release contains all the above, plus:
Users receive Yahoo search as the default, not Google.
This release will be what all users who download a fresh version of Firefox, or download it for the first time receive. This release will NOT be found via Firefox's updater. If you are running Firefox 34, you are on the latest release. There is no need to update to 34.0.5 unless you want to have yahoo search and don't want to switch.
Thanks Ideato :)

just as a heads up for contributors - localstore.rdf got replaced with xulstore.json in firefox 34, so this file would need to be edited/renamed/deleted for manual troubleshooting of issues with the UI.

The setting to make Firefox the default browser has been moved from the [[Options window - Advanced panel|Options window - Advanced panel/General tab]] to the [[Options window - General Panel|Options window - General Panel]] in Firefox 34. edit: it looks like it's being caused by mcafee site advisor
there is another rather widespread (presumably) graphics issue in firefox 34: chinese characters that are shown on top of the interface
here are some of sumo's questions about this issue:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/search/advanced?q=chinese&num_voted=0&num_votes=&asked_by=&answered_by=&q_tags=Firefox+34.0&created=0&created_date=&updated=0&updated_date=&sortby=0&a=1&w=2
and on bugzilla:

tyler, can you escalate this issue internally?

Hi, in 4 cases (we can see system details) is McAfee SiteAdvisor Version: 3.7.1 ({4ED1F68A-5463-4931-9384-8FFF5ED91D92})
'''philipp solve it''' : https://support.mozilla.org/el/questions/1034555#answer-661903 , remove the extension.
because it caused some stir in the forum - due to a critical vulnerability in flash affected versions of the plugin were blocklisted and set to click to play on all platforms:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1109795
https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/flash-player/apsb14-27.html
I can confirm that the 11.2.202.424 version for Linux will give a "Shockwave Flash is known to be vulnerable and should be updated" in Plugins. The message went away once I updated to 11.2.202.425.

Word on the grapevine (read r/firefox) is that these versions of flash have been blacklisted by Mozilla:
* on Windows and Mac: all prior to 13.0.0.259 and all 14.x and 15.x versions prior to 15.0.0.246
* on Linux: all prior to 11.2.202.425

As of present:
*https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1109795#c33
Flash Player Plugin 14.0 to 15.0.0.2'''42'''

Flash Player Plugin on Linux 11.2.202.42'''4''' and lower
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/blocked/p796
Flash 15.0.0.24'''6''' is Not on the blocklist and according to Adobe it is not affected. https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/flash-player/apsb14-27.html
So for Windows and Mac 16.0.0.235, 13.0.0.25'''9''' ESR and
15.0.0.24'''6''' are not vulnerable according to Adobe and are not on blocklist.
For Linux the Flash 11.2.202.42'''5''' is not vulnerable according to Adobe and is not on blocklist.
Get 16.0.0.235 and 13.0.0.25'''9''' ESR for Windows/Mac and 11.2.202.42'''5''' for Linux at https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html
Many Android Firefox users are or were encountering Flash problems.

That is good information Tyler Downer. I also have to add that for the McAfee security vulnerability scanner says that not having FF 34.0.5 puts your computer at risk. I can't speak about the same thing on the other AVs.

The issue is not with Firefox 34 but with the McAfee Site Advisor extension as Tyler was saying that perhaps certain versions of this extension need to be blocked.
Also to note, Firefox 34.0 and 34.0.5 are same release with 34.0.5 having Yahoo as default search engine in en-US version.

James, McAfee security vulnerability scanner is different than Site adviser. It's a piece of software, like secunia, that scans your computer for out of date software and tells you to update. It's a dumb program, so it doesn't actually check to see if the update even fixes security holes (Which 34.0.5 doesn't)
