Windows pop-up says "unable to find (web address) before it does connect to website.
Since upgrading to Firefox 6.0 from 3.6 I get a Windows pop-up that says "windows cannot find ( Yahoo mail or Livemail) Make sure you typed in correctly& try again". I have icons on my desk for these two mail accounts so it's not a typing error. Those two mail accounts are the only thing that causes this. It does not happen if I use IE8. Also since switching to 6.0 it seems my connection speed is slower. I know it's a lot slower than IE8! Please get this resolved. I don't want to go back to IE8. I hate it but this isn't any good either! Help!! p.s. This problem has started showing up when accessing other sites now, not all but most.

Cor-el, I truly appreciate your assistance and I believe what you have outlined will work. My problem is I'm not PC savvy at all. If I tried to perform all of the things outlined on that thread you have supplied I'm quite sure I would get about half way through and have a melt down! I was hoping Firefox would have a simple patch for their problem instead of me having to go into the registry and hopelessly munging up my PC. I think I'll live with the problem until a solution becomes easier to apply.
thanks again!
p.s. Did your solution also address the 2-3 second hang problem I have with Ff 6.0 compared to Ff 3.6 or IE8?
What is the content of the target (command) line in the Properties of the shortcuts that produce that error?
across the top of the box it says:
https//login.live.com/login.srf?wa=wsignin 1.0&rpsnv=11&ct=1298985291&rver=6.1.6206.0&...
The body of the message from windows says:
Windows cannot find ...:%2f%2f mail.live.com %2f default aspx&lc=1033&id=64855&mkt=en-us&cbcxt=mai&sns
I get the same pop-up when I log-in to Yahoo.

Cor-el, the more I mess with this the more I think it is a problem with Firefox 6 lagging or not responding soon enough to "suit" windows. It is giving me this pop-up on almost all of my icons if I right click on them and then immediately click on "open." If I right click on an icon and then hover over "open" 2-3 seconds before I click on it I don't get the windows pop-up. If I click on "open" immediately it hangs for 2-3 seconds , I get the windows pop-up and 1-3 seconds later the page opens with no problem. I don't think it has anything to do with my mail accounts. I never had this "lag" before. What could be causing it? It is annoying.
