i changed my facebook password and firefox still had the old password remembered. So i deleted it and tried to get it to save the new one, but it wont.

Make sure that the site is not in the exceptions: Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: Exceptions

You can also check if there are entries with empty names.
Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords"
