How to restore tabs but NOT their outdated contents?

Is there any way to disable this frankly infurating feature of Firefox that, when starting the browser and restoring the tabs/windows you had open upon closing, shows the pages in the state that they were in during closing?

For example, if I close the browser with say a discussion forum open and then open the browser with that tab restored the next day, it will open in the state that it was when I closed it and I have to refresh it to show any new threads/posts since the day before.

Try as I might I can't see any situation where this behaviour of restoring the page to the state during closing is in any way preferable to restoring it to its current state (except maybe bandwidth savings but seriously, it's 2011). All it does is force the user to manually do "Reload all tabs" upon every startup.

Summary: What I'm looking for is to avoid having to manually "Reload all tabs" upon session restore.
