Ok - I recently upgraded my computer, and part of the upgrade involved me wiping my current HDD and replacing Windows XP with Windows 7. Before I did that I backed up all of my existing Firefox data, including the bookmarks file, and the password files key3.db and signons2 and signons3. I'm no sure what version of Firefox I had on the old machine, but I know I had recently updated, so I'm going to say it was probably 3.6 something. I am currently running 3.6.13.

I got my bookmarks restored OK, but I for the life of me can't figure out how to restore my usernames and passwords for all of my websites. I can open the signons3 file and see the information, but of course it is all encrypted.

Any help here? Thanks.

If you had a Firefox 3.5 or later version on that old computer then you need the file signons.sqlite from that setup in addition to the file key3.db. The files signons#.txt are from older Firefox versions (Firefox 2: signons2.txt and Firefox 3.0.x: signons3.txt). Windows may hide the .txt file extension (right-click context menu: Properties).

You need to remove an existing file signons.sqlite to make Firefox use a file signons#.txt from an older Firefox version.
