Hi, I have a Brother MFC9340MFC that i can use for scanning documents directly as an attachment to my emails. For years now, Outlook has been my only email client so the attachments went there directly. Since i installed Thunderbird (option" install Thunderbird as my standard email client" has been deactivated during installation). The Brother application does not give solutions for choices between emailclients. I removed Thunderbird, and again the scanned documents were attached to my Outlook client, as before. After installing again Thunderbird (not installing it as my standard email client) the scans for email go again automatically to Thunderbird email client. Brother helpdesk told me it is in the Thunderbird system. However, after having read many posts, i still haven't found the option to choose the email client where the scans should land in. Nor the deactivation for receiving emails from a scan apparatus.

Who can help me finding a solution?

Chosen solution

In TB Preferences/General/System Integration, Check Now... and uncheck the Email box. Then, in W10 Settings, Apps, Default apps, set Outlook as the default Email client, and click Set defaults by app to set Outlook as default and make sure TB is not the default.

You might also have to set Outlook as default from within Outlook settings.

Any device or app that is sending files through email will choose the system default email client. However, if you have both Outlook and TB installed, sometimes the system doesn't recognize the default. Do you want Outlook or TB to connect with the scanner? If you want to choose on a per document basis, it would be better to save the scanned document to a file and then attach it to whichever email app you choose.

If you want to always send scanned files through TB, there is a possible remedy:

Hello sfhowes

Thank you for your help, however, this is the opposite solution. The solution I am looking for is the default client being Outlook, as this has been installed like that years ago. I recently installed and reinstalled TB unticking the box "use as default" in the installation process. Still all scans that should be attached to mail, are directed to the TB instead of the Outlook client. I cannot find a solution for this, the only thing I know is that if I uninstall TB the scan goes again directly to the Outlook client. So I think I should not look for a problem with Outlook but with TB that somehow manages to install itself above all as first and only email client. Do you know how to remove this behaviour of TB?

Thank you so much for helping me. Alexandra
