Why is text distorted after windows update and how can I fix it?
Hello,
this morning my windows vista performed some updates. Afterwards the text in Firefix is bad, sometimes even unreadable, se exampe attached. The text is not bad in IE, but a change back is not desireble. Text was OK before Windows Update Restart. Disabling ClearType makes problem worse. I tried to reset as described on https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-preferences-fix-problems, no help.
Data: Acer Travelmate laptop (+6 years), running fully updated Windows Vista, danish language. Firefix 35.0.1.
What to do next?

one option may be to roll-back this particular update for now until there is a fix by microsoft or you could also look if there is a graphics driver update available on the website of the vendor (intel/amd/nvidia) which might also resolve this problem in some cases.

and I'm sorry that the example is not so good after all. Look for the small dots above allmost every letter.
Tried disabling HW accelleration, no luck.

hi lars, this is probably caused by microsoft update kb3013455 which can cause font rendering issues on vista:
After you install security update 3013455, you may notice some text quality degradation in certain scenarios. The problem only occurs on systems that are running Windows Vista SP2 or Windows Server 2003 SP2. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this article when the information becomes available.

Good evening, thanks for providing helpfull information,
I ended up uninstalling the Windows Update kb3013455. It solved the problem. I have subsequeltly hidden the update, otherwise it will install again... I hope that when they solve the text rendering problem, the will release a new update and not rerelease the old one...
During my tries to solve the problem, I reset my Firefox installation. This meant that I loost all my setting to my "noscript" filter. I still have the backup folder from the Firefox reset. Is there some way to recower my settings for this paticular addon?

you could try to reimport the prefs.js file from the backup that got created when you refreshed firefox on the desktop into your current firefox profile https://noscript.net/faq#qa2_4
