Hello All, I have updated Firefox to 28.0 and I am still having the issue with not being able to move tabs to individual windows, open individual windows or click on a web link to open a new window. If I right click on the link it will open in the window as a new tab but will not open as an new window. Can someone tell me if there is a lock on tabs/windows that freezes them? Please help.

Usually if you specify a new window, you get a new window. Do you have any tab-related extensions that could be overriding the built-in feature??

To case whether one of your extensions is involved, you could test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode. That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled (Flash and other plugins still run)

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference?

Thank you for the input - unfortunately this did not change anything. I removed all extensions and even reloaded Firefox after cleaning out all the hidden files and I still experience the same. I can hit the [+] and get a new page but I cannot open a link in an email unless I right click and open to a new tab - although it will not allow you to open to a new window. you cannot grab a window that is open and pull it so that it is it's own separate window. I have tried this using a different application and it does work without any issue. I do not want to use this application because I like using Firefox -- any suggestions would be appreciated. Just do not know what to do to fix this.

Is it specific to links? Could you check whether either of these works:

  • Ctrl+n to create a new window containing your home page
  • Shift+click a bookmark to launch it in a new window

Thank you for the reply. No it does not matter to the link. I had to right click and select new tab to answer this question from the email. Neither of the suggestions worked either. { Ctrl+n to nor the Shift+click }

Thank you everyone for trying to help with this issue.

Also here is a graphic of the tabs options as suggested by Fred McD.

Did you check the advanced settings in your security software as it is possible that that software is blocking new windows?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if this helps.
