Hi there,

On my Thunderbird installation I run two identities with different SMTP servers. One is a private SMTP server that works fine, but since the last Update the other Gmail connection does not. Although smtp.gmail.com is set up as mail server for my Gmail-identity and my password works well on Gmail, Thunderbird has me enter my password for a zillion times when I want to send an email and says it does not work. In addition to that it seems that although I'm writing under my Gmail identity Thunderbird wants to send out through the private SMTP server connected to the other account. What can I do?

Open Tools/Account Settings, select the gmail account in the left pane, then check the Outgoing Server (SMTP) in the lower right pane. Is it pointing to the gmail smtp server associated with the same gmail account? Do the same if the gmail account is an identity (Manage Identities...).

In the account settings both SMPT servers are tied to the correct email address.

What are your settings for smtp.gmail.com? Do you have any password add-ons such as StartupMaster?

NoStartupMaster. Authentication Method: normal password, Connection security: SSL/TLS

Is 2-step verification enabled on this account? If it is, and you aren't using an app password, the authentication has to be OAuth2, instead of normal password. OAuth2 is recommended: enable less-secure apps in Gmail and use the regular account password. That will work when 2-step verification is on or off.
