Hi gkapsis,

a couple of question so I better understand what's going on:

  1. Did you enable "external email program access" to the Yahoo email account from inside yahoo.com? (TB should however start correct even without that)
  2. Next, when you added the 6th account, did the initial mail synch on that account work (like, emails were downloaded to TB) ?
  3. Is there another yahoo.com account among the remaining 5 accounts?

Cheers, Thomas

1. This is already enabled. 2. Yes, there was no problem before. 3. No, there is not another yahoo.com account on TB.

Hi,

thanks for the answers.

Does TB work perhaps correct on the first launch after the computer is restarted and then fails on subsequent launches? If yes, please check if there is a possible "zombie thread" left running after TB was closed.

If it always fails, please check (if you can):

  • is the hard drive permamently busy?
  • is the network permanently busy?
  • does the email account work if web-accessed in the browser?
  • Is there maybe a suspicious email and you have anti-virus software running?
  • have you configured the Yahoo account to use specific ports (SSL) which are probably blocked by your firewall software (if any)?

Also, what does exactly happen when you launch TB - does it look like working normally until it starts looking for mails - or does it "lockup" immediately?

If all the above does not reveal a possible issue, can you maybe make a screenshot of the Yahoo account settings (the "server properties" subitem? Please make sure to erase personal information like user name or storage folder path from the screenshots.

Regards, Thomas

Your second screen shot looks like the crash reporter. Can you provide a crash ID? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mozilla-crash-reporter-tb#w_viewing-crash-reports

Try to start Thunderbird in safe mode. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

Is there any difference?

Before trying anything else create a full backup of your profile folder. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Thunderbird_:_FAQs_:_Backing_Up_and_Restoring

Now, try to start Windows in safe mode with networking enabled. - Win10 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/change-startup-settings-in-windows-10#v1h=tab01 - Win8 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode - Win7 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

Still in Windows safe mode, start Thunderbird in safe mode. - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode

Any difference?

Note, Windows safe mode prevents certain services from running, such as anti-virus software. It is a means to help determine the cause of the crashes, not a solution.

Hi gkapsis,

I can't tell you what do to until the cause of the problem is identified. (Which we are still trying to do here)

In theory, I could ask you to install TB from scratch, without all profiles and just add the Yahoo account to see if the problem is still there. If yes, then we can be pretty sure that TB (or the operating system of your machine) has a problem with some content in your Yahoo mailbox. In practice however, this means you will need to fully backup your existing profile(s) and emails, which is quite some work. Also, there is a riks of losing emails when switiching around profiles and retrieving emails, so this has to be done carefully - which means: It takes time.

Please, do one thing: Open Yahoo mail (in your browser, http://mail.yahoo.com) and check if there is any "suspicious" email in your mailbox. If yes, please delete it and try again to use TB. What does your network and hard disk activity look like when you try to retrieve emails with TB from the Yahoo account - very busy, average, or nothing happening at all?

Regrads, Thomas

Nothing happened!

What in the world does this mean?

Did you run Windows in safe mode or not?

Did Thunderbird still crash or not?

Please be specific.

If you followed the instructions, you have a backup of your Thunderbird profile now.

At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button , then select Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Folder > Open Folder.

This will open your Thunderbird profile in Windows Explorer.

Close Thunderbird!

Delete the following files (if they exist):

  • panacea.dat
  • foldertree.json
  • xulstore.json
  • parent.lock
  • global-messages-db.sqlite

Start Thunderbird.
