I already have an existing thunderbird account and am using the address provided by my ISP . I have just set another account using gmail which I would also like to access in Thunderbird but cant find how to do that .Ultimately i wish to delete that ISP account (TalkTalk) and just rely on the gmail one Thank you

Read info at this link first:

To add another mail account - there are a couple of ways, all are just as good - it's up to you.

From the Menu Toolbar

  • File > New > Existing Mail account

From the Menu Icon on Mail Toolbar:

  • Menu Icon > New Messages > Exisitng Mail Account

From the Account Settings window

  • Click on 'Account Actions'
  • select 'Add Mail account'

A small window opens - this is sometimes refered to as the Wizard as it can configure accounts automatically.

  • Enter your name, email address and password (the one you use to access gmail webmail account using a browser).
  • Select to remember password
  • click on 'Continue'

thunderbird will attempt to locate configuration settings. Usually, it defaults to selecting IMAP.

If you do not want IMAP, then select POP3 Click on 'Done' button to create the mail account.

If you selected to use IMAP then please Check the settings : Open this link and select the Thunderbird option to see more info:

note: gmails 'All Mail' folder is gmails archive of all your messages. I would advise that you do not subscribe to see this folder. It can get very large and doubles the size of your Profile. If you delete messages from this file, they will get deleted from all other folders.

Any messages you store in 'Local Folders' account are kept on your computer. They do not synchronise with any IMAP accounts.

re: account (TalkTalk) You can move emails into suitably named folders in 'Local Folders' account to store emails. Then remove the account when you wish.

  • Tools > Account Settings
  • select the talktalk account
  • click on 'Account Actions'
  • Select 'Remove account'
  • click on OK.
