Google.com is my default opening page - how can I stop every time I open it, it now switching to regional Google and not remembering the 'Use Google.com' button

I used to have no problems on the old Firefox where google.com was set as an opening page. The most recent version keeps defaulting to the regional Google (in this case google.ca). The Google front page has an option that allows you to use google.com rather than the regional one but this appears to no longer be working. This is not wanted and we would like back the option where Firefox remembers the setting.

All of this could no doubt be sorted by logging into a google account but due to privacy concerns and the fact that this is a shared computer means that we don't want one particular account to be the default one. Can this problem be corrected anywhere else?

Something may have changed your home page settings

Type about:config<Enter> in the address bar. If a warning screen comes up, press the Be Careful button. This is where Firefox finds information it needs to run. At the top of the screen is a search bar. Type browser.newtab.url This tells Firefox what to show when a new tab is opened. If you want, right click and select Modify. You can change the setting to;

about:home (Firefox default home page), about:newtab (shows the sites most visited), about:blank (a blank page),

or you can enter any web page or about: page you want.

The same instructions are used for the new window setting, listed as browser.startup.homepage.

Bookmark and use this; Download the Mozilla Search Reset {web link} This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and then resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.
