I have tried to enter several credit card numbers on iOS (14.3) and MacOS (two different machines, one on Catalina 10.15, and the other on Mavericks 10.14), but for every attempt, it just says it cannot process the payment, and to check the credit card info. Well, the info is absolutely correct, so this is a problem either with Mozilla or with Stripe, can’t tell which. Frustrating.

Oh, there is an answer here; it's just a question of getting the attention of someone at Mozilla. The problem may lie with either Mozilla or its payment processor, Stripe, but corrective action has to originate with Mozilla.
