TB automatically updated today (03 September). Following that I am no longer able to send/receive emails. When checking for new messages' I receive the error message: "Connection to server pop3.hughes.net was reset." FAQ suggested using ConFig Editor to "search type: IPv6 Look for: network.dns.disableIPv6. It will probably say 'False' Double click on that line to toggle the value to say 'True'. Close window using top right X. Restart Thunderbird. I did and it did not solve my problem. When attempting to send a new messageI get the following error message: "Sending of the message failed. Peer using unsupported version of security protocol. The configuration related to smtp.hughes.net must be corrected." What precisely in the configuration needs to be corrected? I have been using TB for fifteen or more years and only in the last year have I started having this sort problem when updating. Thank you for your help.

FAQ suggested going into ConFig Editor, finding "security.tls.version.min" and switch it from 3 to 2.

Suggest you try changing it to 1. This worked for me as setting 2 did not.

re :THANK YOU THANK YOU!! That did the trick. By the way, will the change stay or will I need to reset it every time TB updates? What is your opinion on disabling "auto-update". I am considering doing it. Thanks once again,

I reset it when I downloaded and installed 78.0 Since then there have been several updates and I've not had to do anything. The setting has stuck ok.

The Thunderbird auto update is ok, but I've set mine to ask before updating. This allows me time to check out the release notes etc. I can choose to delay the update.

Note: Thunderbird has currently switched off the auto update, so no auto updates from 68 to 78 are occurring. However, some people have discovered that they have other Updater Software on their computers. Those people were auto updated from 68 to 78 and some have run into a few problems that needed fixing. So if you have Updater Software on your computer, I would make sure Thunderbird is exempt. Only allow Thunderbird to perform it's own updating.

Yes, I believe the trouble started when 78 (automatically) installed. I've been using TB for fifteen ot twenty years and have had very few troubles with it. I'll take your suggestion and switch updates to "ask first". Looks like I'll need to pay more attention to the release notes as well. While my current laptop still lives I'm stuck with Windows10 and it also has auto-updates. My intention is to switch to Linux when I replace this current computer. Thanks again for your help. Using this forum is also new for me and I am liking it very much as well! Richard
