Youtube, Wikipedia and other pages are shown as text-only or are otherwise messed up

Wikipedia, Youtube and many other pages are not shown correctly. Some are almost text-only and not really formatted:

Others are missing some elemnts. Youtube videos can be played, videos from Blip.tv can't. The Ebay pull-down menu that appears if you move the mouse cursor over "My Ebay" doesn't appear. This page here (Mozilla support) is shown correctly (but few page are). I already tried a re-install, turning off and on all plugins and add-ons, en- and disabling Adblock Plus ect. ect.

The problem occurred yesterday morning for the first time. Funny enough, the same Firefox configuration runs fine on my Windows XP SP3 laptop.

Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache.

  • Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
