hello altanmk, websites can specify if browsers should be able to save username/passwords (through the autocomplete="off" attribute in the login form in the html source code) - this is often the case when a higher level of security is presumably required by those sites & it's also happening on yahoo's login page.

you can either install an addon or use a bookmarklet to circumvent this restriction.

Usernames and passwords are not saved

On the mozilla browser click tools, add ons. search for Rememberpass add on and install. This worked for me on my win 8 computer.

There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page to log you in automatically.

The latter involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server.
If this "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you and you will have to sign in once again.

  • Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":

  • do not clear the Cookies
  • do not clear the Site Preferences

Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.

Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you would like to keep. --- Some websites like the Yahoo server use autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving form data like name and password.

You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox store form data like names and passwords.

Note that Firefox won't auto-fill saved form data automatically when autocomplete=off is used, so you need to double-click the empty name field to get a drop-down list.

The simple answer is to : On the mozilla browser click tools, add ons. search for Rememberpass add on and install. This worked for me on my win 8 computer.

Now when you open yahoo mail sign in page: If the user name box is empty, simply click on the empty box then click on the empty password box. now click again on the user name box. This time your user ID will appear in the drop down box. Once you select your user name, the password will appear in the password box. The first time you go through the log in process, Mozilla will ask if you want it to remember the password, select remember password. I did this with my win 7 computer about a year ago when yahoo mail quit automatically putting the user name/password in the boxes. Just used this same remedy yesterday on my new win 8 laptop. Works like a charm. Mozilla is aware of issues like this, hence a reason to make the add on. It works and you cant argue with that.
