Cannot access firefox on IMAC. Tried to bin it and download a fresh version. Keep getting "A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time". But cannot find this Appreciate help

I am not a tech person so cannot understand geek language :( I am not sure if post upgrade of I did something wrong but cannot get Firefox to load at all. Keep getting the message "A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time". I have found it in my Applications and binned it and emptied bin. Then downloaded on Safari a fresh version but still get error message. This is not happening on my MacBook Air. Appreciate any help to restore it m thanks

I'm going to suggest something a little bit geeky. Mac has a panel called Activity Monitor that you can use to discover running programs/processes that aren't apparent on the screen/dock. So in theory you could use that to "terminate" Firefox to get a fresh start. As a Windows person, I confess I've never tried Activity Monitor myself, but here's an Apple article:
