I reinstalled Firefox, following the advice found on this support page, but have lost everything. Can anyone help me recover what I lost?

After the most recent Firefox updates, I wasn't able to load Facebook anymore, so I looked up whether I could reinstall Firefox without losing all my bookmarks and settings. I followed the advice given on this support page by renaming the folder "OldFirefox" and then reinstalling Firefox, but everything has been lost (or at least seems to be). What I don't understand is when I right click over the new Firefox icon (after the reinstall) and look at the properties, instead of pointing to the folder ...Mozilla/Firefox.exe, it's pointing to ....OldFirefox/Firefox.exe. It's as if the install didn't create a new Mozilla folder in the directory, even though it was supposed to during the install. Is there a way to get back what I lost? I feel like I'm going to throw up right now. I had an enormous amount of things bookmarked and saved. Thanks for any help.

Changed the name back but no changes.

One thing that I remembered and wonder about: when I initially reinstalled the Firefox, the installer wanted to place the program and program folder in the C:\Program Files directory instead of the C:\Program Files (x86) directly (even though I have a 64-bit operating system). I forced it to go into the C:\Program Files (x86) directory. Should I try reinstalling it again (now that I know where to find the original profile and can reload it) but this time let it place the program folder where it wants? Should I uninstall the old one first or will that cause my profile to disappear too? Should I bother to rename the folder again?

I do appreciate all the help you've given me all night. After this, I think I'm just going to live with what I've got if it doesn't work and use Chrome for some things.

Oh... let's try the clean reinstall again.

Rename

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox\

Run the 64-bit installer and let it install in the natural folder for 64-bit programs,

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\

I'm not quite sure whether it will get the right profile automatically or not. I guess we'll see.

Ok, I did the clean reinstall and still no changes. The original profile didn't load automatically but I was able to get to it and make it the default, so at least I still have my bookmarks.

Thanks so much for all the help you gave me in trying to resolve this. For now, I will just use it for most things and use Chrome for the sites I can't access.

Thanks again!

Interesting finding: I was playing around and tried opening the link in a Private Browsing window and it let me open it and load it. Doesn't work in a regular window but in private browsing it does (for all the sites I mentioned). So for now, that will be my work around.

Thanks again for your help.
