How do I stop Firefox opening hundreds of tabs when I try to open one?
Example today, when I try to open a link via the button for the speech by Andy Haldane here; https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/speech/2019/andy-haldane-sheffield-political-economy-research-institute-annual-lecture-2019?utm_source=Bank+of+England+updates&utm_campaign=2e7707cbf3-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_05_07_01_28&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_556dbefcdc-2e7707cbf3-111043381
Instead of access to the page I get this message; file:///temp/mozilla_chris0/is-all-economics-local-speech-by-andy-haldane.pdf . . . and an uncontrolled avalanche of tabs opening, continuously, (have seen more than 1,000 in a very short timescale, which, if I then close the tabs, Firefox completely collapses.
Please advise. Thank you.

hi chris, please go to the firefox menu ≡ > options > general panel and in the files & applications section, change the default action for "portable document format (pdf)" to something different like preview in firefox...
hopefully this should rectify the issue!

As a footnote, there is a help article on this, but it's hard to find in a search: Firefox repeatedly opens empty tabs or windows after you click on a link. Maybe the title should include the word "hundreds"?
Thank you philipp, worked first time. Chris.
Again, thank you jscher2000, you are correct to point out the need to add the word hundreds. :) and also for the other suggestions. Chris.
