Hello-

Woke this AM and found Firefox Self-Updated itself (without asking me first). Anyway, I see that my places.sqlite is the same file size as it was two days ago so I'm assuming that's all ok for my Bookmarks.

1. HOWEVER, When I opened and restarted my computer this AM both my new Toolbar was empty (it didn't keep/port over my saved Bookmark icons on previous Toolbar) and there aren't any previous bookmarks listed under the two bookmark icons on above the toolbar (Library and Bookmarks icons) to even drag and drop to new Toolbar  ???

2. I also tried to drag and drop a website icon to my toolbar from address bar and it wouldn't let me place the mouse with the URL to the Toolbar. My mouse pointer got that circle with a line through it--not the vertical placement position line. ???

3. Lastly, my Add-ons/Extensions didn't port over either. How do you import /port over previous Firefox browser Extensions/Add-ons to new Firefox??? I can't remember them all.

Again, It appears I still have the data files from the previous version I was using. But Firefox didn't "unpack" anything so to speak to where they are supposed to be or where you'd expect them to be upon any update of any software program.

I would like a hopefully a simple fix to these three things from someone who knows and is certain about these three similar matters when Firefox Updates itself. Much Appreciated!

Thanks in advance...

Steven

PS: The photo shows my current Firefox home screen.

Firefox Update is Default settings, you can change that to manual(Not recommended). I think your profile got crashed.

i suggest you to create a new profile and move your old data's to new profile.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See Creating a profile:

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

Profile Backup and Restore

Hi iamjayakumars:

As luck would have it, nothing got corrupted in the update and I back up my Profiles folder manually to an external drive monthly anyway (just two weeks ago). So it wouldn't have been an issue anyway.

I used these two links to accomplish this. Easier to follow and far more specific --step by step than FFs instructions. Not as hard as it reads/looks.

New Profile:

Assumes you still have old/earlier Profiles on your Desktop or backed up some place:

1. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager

2. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows

I simply created a new Profile name this time with my name and today's date (make it easier to spot later) and copied and pasted it from my external hard drive where I manually backup it up monthly. It worked!

For Bookmarks and Add-Ons from old profile: The following is based on assuming your Windows Filing System is set up like mine to locate folders/files for FireFox v64--I never moved the installed Windows files--(I have Windows Home 7...it's probably the same folder hierarchy in your C drive or later later versions of Windows) . Here you go:

OLD BOOKMARKS:

Then i went to Bookmarks>SHow All Bookmarks>Restore>Choose File> (in Windows go into Explorer) Click your C: Drive>Users>User>AppData --- **if AppData is blurred out and you can't open it you need to unhide it so in Explorer at top go to Tools>Folder Options>Uncheck 'Show All Hidden Files' - ignore any warning box that comes up), now back to APPData> Mozilla Folder>Roaming>Firefox>Profiles and now open your newly named Profile listed and locate and select the file 'PlacesSqlite' (make sure in Explorer on lower right you display ALL FILES if you don't see a list of single white files) and just continue and all Bookmarks from old Firefox should be back on toolbar.

OLD ADD-ONS/EXTENSIONS:

Lastly, to add your Extensions/Add-Ons, go to ADD-Ons in Firefox, select the grind wheel Settings in upper right (Tools to Add-On) . Select Install and Add Files>Open Extensions folder in Explorer (within in new Profile) and Select them all and Click Open . Done! (If you don't see anything listed in Extension folder make sure ALL FILES is selected in lower right corner of Explorer). Some Add-Ons may not make it in or missing for various reasons (they are old, incompatible with new FF version, etc.)

Thanks and Good luck to all!
