I know there are a fair number saying things like this but none solve my problem (and I know someone will link me to the article on memory fixes again even though I've tried all that!)

I'm on a Mac running Snow Leopard using FF 39. Even with ONE tab open its taking over 600 MB of RAM. This just started recently, possibly the last upgrade. I have 2 GB RAM, which shouldn't be an issue with ONE tab open. I've tried disabling extensions and it didn't help. Activity Monitor shows very clearly (I even tried a different activity app too) that Firefox is the culprit.

Something is very wrong here. I can see it getting that high with multiple tabs when I'm on for a long time, but its doing it as soon as I open it with only one tab open and I frequently have to force quit. There is nothing on your site to say it isn't still compatible with Snow Leopard. So what is wrong and how do I fix it?
