yesterday my computer automatically upgraded to version 36.0. The bookmark toolbar vanished even though it is checked.

Bookmark tool bar shows if I'm in customization but nothing is there and no bookmarks will save. I've done both a refresh and uninstall/reinstall and nothing changes.

Locate your profile by click "start", type "%APPDATA%" (all cap), press enter to open the folder, and delete "Mozilla" there.

DON'T DO THAT ! ! ! !

Deleting that folder will remove all profile informaton.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

Type about:support in the address bar and press enter.

Under the page logo on the left side you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To it’s right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the places.sqlite file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.

does removing profile help?

Locate your profile by click "start", type "%APPDATA%" (all cap), press enter to open the folder, and delete "Mozilla" there.

i agree that we should aim for non-invasive advice. so for future reference it would be better to rename folders and files first instead of deleting them...
