I have a Mac OS X laptop running version 10.6.8. Firefox was installed over two years ago and has been used exclusively for Internet access, running through Telstra wireless cable. Yesterday I noticed that it had relocated its position on the dashboard. I thought it strange that this should happen without warning at the time. Today it is gone entirely from the dashboard. I can find no trace of it in Applications and indeed anywhere even in the Trash. It seemingly has been deleted somehow without my knowledge or permission. The other applications on the dashboard are still in situ and appear to be working OK. Can you advise action as there are many bookmarks attached that are very important to me

Thank you

Hi Ray,

Sorry for the confusion previously. Let me see if I can help to solve your problem.

Have you tried saving the icon to your Dock to see if the icon sticks there? Open Firefox from the Applications once it's visable in the folder, then try Control-clicking on the icon while it's open in your Dock then choose Options > Keep in Dock.

Let me know if that helps, and if not we may need more information about what's going on.

-Robert

Hello,

Firefox automatically creates backups of your bookmarks, which can be helpful if your bookmarks are lost or missing. To recover them, follow the instructions below.

  1. Use one of these methods to open the Bookmarks Library window:
    • Firefox 29 and above: Click the Bookmarks button Bookmarks-29 and select Show All Bookmarks.
    • Previous Firefox versions: Click the Firefox button and click on Bookmarks. (If you don't have a Firefox button, click the Bookmarks button Bookmarks button win 2 or Bookmarks menu item and select Show All Bookmarks.)
  2. At the top of the Library window, click on Import and Backup and select Restore.
  3. Click the date of the bookmark backup you want to recover.
  4. In the new window that appears, click OK.
  5. Your bookmarks from the selected date should now be restored.

For more information, see the Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer article. For other solutions, see the Recover lost or missing Bookmarks article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

It is a curious thing. After my email yesterday to Firefox, the ikon for Firefox reappeared. It was visible and useable all day. But today the ikon has again disappeared and cannot be found. There appears to some denial of service occurring.

I did get once response from "Geekgirl", which while appreciated, did not address the issue of the disappearing ikon. I was aware that bookmark could be restored. However it is the issue of the disappearing ikon. It is unreasonable to have to load a fresh copy of Firefox on a daily basis

Your advice would be much appreciated

Thanks

Ray

Hi Robert

Success!!!

I followed your advice and indeed switched the computer on and off several times without losing the Firefox image.

It is strange though that I have been using Firefox for almost three years without any problems and this happens out of the blue

Many thanks for your help

Have a good year

Regards

Ray
