I have read many many requests for the answer to this question and have to find an answer. I am on a Mac, and I use scripts and bots which DO NOT WORK with FF 33. I can use 32 perfectly well. I am very frustrated that it seems that unlike just about every piece of software or app I have ever used, FF does not allow the end user to choose to not update. I have no security issues that would require constant updating. Constant downdrading though, is starting to get really annoying. Help?

You should stay up to date for security reasons:

If your scripts work for Firefox version 31, consider using the ESR version which updates for security but doesn't make the other changes like in the normal release:

I have NO security reasons to have constant updates. I only use FF for games that do not require any personal information that I am concerned about. I cannot use ESR for several reasons, first of which is I am not a school or organization an you have to complete a days worth of forms to apply to use it.

I just want it to stop. MAKE IT STOP. Ugh.

Why do you not want to upgrade? Besides keeping you secure (despite what you think it is important to stay up to date) older versions of Firefox are also slower, more unstable and cause troubles for developers who have to then support older versions of browsers on top of the newer version.

  1. There's a button in the link I gave you that goes straight to a page with all the installers - no forms required:
  2. Security exploits does not always mean personal information being leaked; it can also patch exploits that can put unwanted applications on your computer. And yes, Macs can get viruses too.
  3. If you still want to stay on your version:
    1. Disable the automatic update in your Edit (or New Fx Menu) > Preferences > Advanced > Update
    2. You can also go to the about:config page by searching for the boolean app.update.auto and setting it to False
