If I used a hyperlink contain within a file, Firefox locks the file. Going to a different URL after does not release the file's lock.

The only way I've found is to close Firefox. I am then able to delete the file containing the hyperlink.

Hi RedWine_1st,

Love Red wine :-) I would like to better understand the file you are clicking on the hyperlink from. Is the file open in Firefox? Do you have an example of a file where this happens?

We can better troubleshoot and investigate with an example. :-)

My circumstances are as follows. From Windows Explorer I open a file with DAMN NFO Viewer. This program is a utility for viewing text files containing ASCII Art. http://www.softpedia.com/get/Office-tools/Text-editors/DAMN-NFO-Viewer.shtml

Within this file will be a hyperlink to a TV show or movie listing at http://www.imdb.com/ After using the hyperlink very often, but 100% of the time, the file can’t be deleted until Firefox is closed.

It happens so often I quit using the hyperlink. I instead copy/paste the link into Firefox. Unfortunately I do not have a copy of a file that I have had an issue.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if this helps.
