My 77yo father lives in Tennessee and I in Ohio. I occasionally try to troubleshoot technical PC issues remotely with TeamViewer.

18 months ago we migrated him from an XP laptop using Outlook Express for email to an Acer Win 11 laptop with Thunderbird ESR (now 17.0.9). He only has two linked email accounts but saves a fair amount of emails & .doc attachments in personal folders. He also uses Firefox with less than 20 bookmarks.

Last week he seemed to get disconnected from both his TB & FF profiles. TB startup screen like attached, and no favorites saved with FF (keeps asking if wanted to be default browser). I did full disk AV scans with Spybot & Windows Defender, both were clean.

I confirmed his profile is still there with some large files. I attempted to copy/paste and rename the same thing, but link wasn't restored. About his only other software is Office 2003 which has always run stably.

Any ideas to save data and avoid starting from scratch? Many thanks.
