Have Tbird as default mail client. Lately the Crash Report dialog box appears but when l begin typing, the Mac locks up. Cannot even do a restart but have to use the 8-second illegal shutdown. Can l delete Tbird and do a reinstall without losing my mail history?

Thanks for responding. If l knew how l could send you a screen print of the crash report notification l would. When it appears there are no details or numbers and when l try to respond, the screen freezes.

Sounds to me like a hardware or OS problem

Somebody called Wayne we kind enough to reply but l have no idea how to reply other than here.

My question is: Can l just delete Firefox and Thunderbird from the Mac without losing my address book - and then reinstalling Thunderbird? Am using my Samsung tablet for all email because the Crash Report locks up the Mac.

yes.

I suggest you first attempt starting Thunderbird in safe mode. Hold down the apple command/control key and click Thunderbird icon. If it starts in safe mode, then try the same with Firefox. Then in Thunderbird go to Help | Troubleshooting and on that page will be your crash IDs.

If you do this then we might know whether the problem is video device driver, which Firefox and Thunderbird share.
