Bring me back my old firefox UI. I hate firefox 29. It doesn't help me do things quicker and the those bl**dy curvy tabs! Try that with 20+ tabs open...

Please, please revert this retro step in your next version. There's nothing that I'd call an improvement. And a leaky bandaid in the form of an addon is waste of good intentions.

Hello,

There are two ways you can get back the previous Firefox interface.

The OP forgot to mention that the new Firefox is slower and also buggy. The back button now only works some of the time. It's like they didn't want to wait until it was fully tested before releasing it. And if they did fully test it, even worse...

I need the status bar because add-ons I use need a bit of width to show me various values, e.g. IP address, PageRank, etc. I went back to 28 and turned off automatic updates.

This extension restores the Add-on Bar, which is what extensions use. The old "Statusbar" is long gone, other that a "shim" for add-ons that were never properly updated for Firefox 4+ versions.

Going back to an older version may leave you subject to exploits due to not receiving security updates.

"MENU" button completely unresponsive. A right-click to "customize" either opens a blank tab or doesn't work at all. Bookmarks toolbar disappears every time I close and I have to hit "View>Toolbars>Bookmarks" every single time a open to get it back. HATE this version.

Hi JTOMalley, your menu button should not be unresponsive. In case one of your extensions is involved, could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • tap the Alt key > Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run

After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset).

Any difference?

If your toolbar open/closed status isn't remembered, this can be caused by a corrupted settings file or by software such as Advanced SystemCare that protects you from unwanted settings changes by rolling your settings back to a saved file. Let's come back to this issue.

That link didn't work for me. I have a Mac. This new Firefox is pissing me off. Is there a way to install Firefox 28 over this current dog shit version that i just downloaded? I need a MAC link. Something that i can use. When i tried to download from that link you gave me, it just came up as text and code. Meaning it's not compatible with my Mac. Des anyone know of a ay to get the old Firefox 28 for the Mac. Pleeeeeease let me KNOW. Something that isn't utterly useless to me.

Thank you for proposing that add on that allowed me to reset my classic theme. I did that and messed around with it and now my firefox looks like my familiar lovable browser.

Thanks!

I've used the "classic" add-on, and it works. However, It bothers me that I need to use it at all. Upon seeing the new interface my first thought was, "holy crap" it looks like MS IE. Mozilla you seem intent on making Firefox the LAST browser i would choose.

Every new iteration comes with one more step backward. Pretty soon the only way Firefox will look and feel like Firefox is by use of so many add-ons that it becomes not worth using. Get a clue, stop f**king up the features that made Firefox great in the first place.

I will not use FF29 or any other version from her on, until you restore ti to its former customizable self, WITHOUT ADD-ONS!

Let me add that my biggest gripe with the interface is locking the back button to the address bar. I effing hate that about IE and now I hate it with FFx. The add-on fixes it, sure. I remember beta testing this. I uninstalled it hoping that what I saw was NOT the the release. Somebody at Mozilla is taking stupid pills. And this is not a case of "oh he'll get used to it. everybody gripes at first." No, this release is nearing the end for me and the Fox.

Just have to say Mozilla, Change for the sake of change is NOT a smart thing to do. Add to that that removing so much of what made FF our favorotte browser is a HUGE Mistake.

There is chrome (Which btw is a dumbed down version of FF) already, stop trying to emulate it. Stop trying to be like IE. Just be Firefox. NOT This new 'monster' you dropped on us.

Also, whoever's feedback led you to make these changes likely are not avid users. People who want bright clown colored bars with silly un-needed shinybits, and who need to have all options removed to 'prevent wrecking' it, should simply not be using firefox.

mrchris here is the download link for various Firefox 28 english US versions

MAC: Firefox 28.0.dmg

Linux (i686): firefox-28.0.tar.bz2

Linux (X86_64): firefox-28.0.tar.bz2

and Windows: Firefox Setup 28.0.exe

  • Don't forget to change the settings on the update tab (FOR EACH COMPUTER USER) to "Never check for updates" or it will update back to Firefox 29 on a system with default Firefox update user settings

I really don't think we should have to use an ADD-ON to correct a problem being created intentionally by this new release. I think it's arrogant and if this isn't rectified on the next release I will find another browser. Maybe Opera but I'd rather choose clunky and unsafe Internet Explorer or the browser 29 is trying to be, Chrome, as an alternative to having the Chrome UI shoved down my throat .

I also see the limitations of the "add-on" to restore the classic theme and one problem just seems to lead to another, but what happens when the 3rd party add-on creator doesn't update the add-on to be compatible with a new version of Firefox?

IMPORTANT (Comment from a forum moderator ~J99 )

It is NOT recommended to downgrade Firefox.
That increases the risks to your Personal Data and your system.

Feel free to install whatever outdated software you wish, but before considering downgrading Firefox to an unsupported and insecure version

Users aware of the risks may consider methods to mitigate those risks such as using Virtual Machines and having well rehearsed bare metal restore procedures.

Did you really succeed in returning to the past so that your past is now your present as though you had never gotten into FF 29?

How did you do it, please?

I was so happy already with FF 28, then suddenly I was told to update to FF 29 for my own good, and I did; but now I can't get a lot of things done with FF anymore.

Please, how did you successfully go back to FF 28 as though now you never left it for FF 29.

It is like say you have already a good life then someone fooled you into taking up another life, but it sucks now; so you successfully went back to the past and deleted totally your change as if it was only a bad dream.

i have installed "classic theme restorer" - as advised by firefox support here.

now there is a new issue: installing this extension brought back the firefox button in the top-left corner. but at the same time, this extension removes/hides the new menu button on the right side of the toolbar.

using the customization screen i am able to put the button back on the toolbar, but pressing this button has no effect.

and here is the punchline: since firefox support team is listing this extension as the one and only possible solution to several hundred thousand user complaints, this is now a FULLY SUPPORTED BY MOZILLA FEATURE/PRODUCT.

you cant win both cases: 1) either you stop recommending this extension and replace all such instances with a simpler "unsupported feature" for all forum questions. at least this way your users will know to look for a new browser. 2) actually fix the feature in your product to work as the users desire.
