I am a new user of Firefox (installed yesterday). It is VERY slow & I registered and asked a question yesterday (user:petef). Some people have replied but I cannot now log in under my original username / password - it just ignores me when I enter them. I have now set up a new user / password to ask this question. If the same happens, I will not be able to log in again, so apologies in advance if I cannot respond to your replies! Thanks

This can be caused by corrupted cookies or cookies that are blocked (check the permissions on the about:permissions page).

Clear the cache and the cookies from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Managed to log in for a 2nd time!! I cleared the cache, but could not remove cookies as there is no "Cookies" option in Options>Privacy in my Firefox (v.21). I'll try to log in under my other username (petef) to resolve original question about Firefox running very very slow.

To see all history and cookie settings, use:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"

Thanks cor-el - Can now delete cookies.

However original problem persists. I could not log-in to reply here with either of my previous usernames, have had to set up a 3rd username to make this reply.

Probably my last post as I'm running out of email addresses for new users! Pete

Can you login in a New Private Window?

What kind of error message do you get?

more options

It seems almost random as to whether I can log in or not. Have now managed to log in (using i.e.) using an exsting username. When it doesn't log me in, it gives no error message, just doesn't log me in. I'll try logging in using a New Private Window in FF - if i don't get back to you it's because i can't log in again.

All this is just a preliminary to my original question about getting FF to work at more than a snail's pace. Difficult to resolve when i can't log in!

May have solved this. I seem able to log in at will now (hope it lasts). I changed some of the Privacy options:

Before I had "never remember history"

Now I have:

  • ticked: "use custom settings for history"
  • ticked: "accept cookies from sites"
  • unticked: "accept 3rd party cookies"
  • ticked: "keep until I close Firefox"
  • ticked: "clear history when Firefox closes"

Haven't changed anything else, so might be the cause? Also FF21 now seems faster.
