my husband had had the same thing happen at work, tho we still don't know just what "that" was?

oh, and my apologies again, the "firefox" button is orange, not green. at least for now?

The orange Firefox button changes to purple when you're in the Private Browsing mode. That the way it works on Windows PC's.

Mac and Linux versions of Firefox vary from those colors - grey instead of orange, IIRC.

the actual solution to my problem (from yesterday...no longer had a firefox button PERIOD! or history or google toolbar , etc., didn't print in my response. i'm new to all this.

what my husband had been shown to do was to hit the "maximize" button. when i did, everything resized on the screen & i could see that the other stuff wasn't gone, it had just been hidden. this fix seems counter intuitive to me, since the problem was that the page was too big to start with.

but then, i no longer try to understand computers...or computer people! (my son being one of "those!")

thanks for reaching out.

The Firefox button is only there if you say hide the Menu bar by right-click Menu bar and unchecking [] Menu Bar.

The Firefox button is there by default on Windows Vista and 7 but has a regular Menu bar on Windows XP unless you hide Menu Bar.
