Hi Yousef,
Make sure that you have a stable connection upon downloading the files. In this case, please try again, maybe using a reliable wifi, and let us know if that solved it.
Cheers!

No, it did not. First my problem is not dwonloading Firfox, it is downloading a one page PDF file. Second, in the firebox's setting, under general, files and application, save files to, in the provided bar I am not allowed to (I can't) type name of any folder to choose. And, choose link does not respond (it is dead) when I click on it.
Wait, are you referring to the desktop browser and not Firefox for iOS?
Hi, Sorry, perhaps I should have provided the following; since 3/6/2024 when the new update of Firefox 123.0.1 (20240304104836) was automatically installed on my MacBook air, macos Sonoma 14.3.1, which had also recently been automatically updated, I can't download any file, even one page, from internet or company sites. On any site when I click to "download" a file I get this message "download failed". Hope this clarifies.
Hey Yousef,
Apologies for not answering sooner. Please check out the following article and let me know if you still run into the same problem What to do if you can't download or save files.
Hi, Kiki, Thank you for your interest and efforts to help.
My problem seems to be as simple as typing a folder name in the bar and clicking on the choose, I am not allowed to do these. See the uploaded image below which is from Firefox setting.
I checked your last suggestion, it is too complicated and lengthy for my level of expertise and patience. As it is now, Chrome and Safari are working fine and I rather not to risk jeopardizing the state of my computer doing something that I am not confident I can do safely.
For about 15 yrs, I have being using Firefox as browser, but If I can not use it safely and conveniently any longer, then, let it be.
Thanks again.
Hey Yousef,
Totally understandable. If you're still up for trying, you may want to try reset the download folder.
Otherwise, try choosing "Always ask where to save files" so you'll be prompted whenever you're about to download a file.
You can't type in the folder field as that is a read-only input field. You need to click the Choose button and navigate to a folder that you wish to use.
Make sure that you have write permission
Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or if userChrome.css/userContent.css is causing the problem.
- switch to the Default System theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
- do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window

Dear Kiki, See the uploaded image from Firefox settings, I have tried clicking the CHOOSE bottom, nothing happens, seems it is not working. I have selected the box next to "Always ask you where to save files" it does not work either. See the 2nd uploaded image.
Cor-el, Thank you for trying to help. I have partially attempted what you suggest. As I have mentioned in my earlier posts, I do not have the expertise and the patience of trying what I am not confident I can do safely, and I do not want to jeopardize the current state of my computer which is working fine with Chrome & Safai. FYI, up to early march Firefox was doing fine, downloading started failing after Firefox version 123.0.1 was autocratically uploaded unto my computer. Thank you both for trying to help.

I understand.. In that case, I think the only option would be to wait for the next update and hope that the update will fix your issue. Firefox 124 will land on March 19, so you may want to keep an eye on the date.
What security software do you have on your Mac?
Hi cor-el I have also suspected that the Mac security software may have a role. But, first, I do not know what Mac uses. Second, as I understand it, the security software is part of the Mac OS package and I do not want to mess with it. You got to remember that on the same Mac, with the same OS, I did not have any problem using earlier versions of Firefox.
This is about third-party security software as that is possible on Mac just like on Windows.
