I had a crash on my desktop PC, possibly due to an erroneous action of mine, which occurred on December 20th, which has ended with my PC, which after entering the password, the screen locks to black.

I turned to my laptop as a salvation, but when I tried to open my email, for which I use Mozilla Thunderbird, at first I opened the home page, but my email accounts did not appear. Currently, it doesn't even open that page when you tap on that desktop icon.

I'm an 80-year-old male and I'm getting more and more clumsy with the SW of the PC, so I pray that if you can help me it's in a language for the very clumsy in computer matters. I don't speak English so this is automatically translated, so I would appreciate it if you could help me in Spanish to restore my email accounts, since I am no longer used to using Web mail.

My PC is an HP Pavilion x360 -14-cd0018ns, I5 core 8th Gen. / W10 home/ HD ext. 3TB for data.

Thanks a lot. PLOK.

If there was a crash, Thunderbird may have created a new profile, causing old accounts to not appear. Your old profile may be somewhere at c:\users\<yourid>\appdata\roaming\thunderbird\profiles Your account might be in a profile folder there in the Mail or Imapmail folder. If you locate it, let us know and we will attempt assist.

Hi David. As you can see I don't have a visible appdata folder and I don't know how I can see it. Most of the folders are empty, because I use the External Hard Drive for all Office data files, images, drawings, etc.

Ok, to see the appdata folder, do this: - start Windows File Explorer - click View>show>hidden items

OR, you can get to the profiles from Thunderbird: - click help>troubleshootinginformation - scroll down to 'profile folder' and click 'open folder' - you are now in the profile. click the 'back' arrow to go back one folder level. - you should now be in the ....thunderbird\profiles folder If there are multiple folders here, one of them may be your old profile. Browse within each to view the Mail and Imapmail folders to see if your account is there. If so, post back for more assistance.

Hi again, David.

I hadn't read your answer yet, when I don't know what I did and by chance “appdata” appeared, so I opened it, according to your instructions and I saw things (data that opens with Firefox) that I attached. I think my email details are somewhere.

I have on my laptop 4 Gmail accounts and 1 Hotmail account, although on the fixed PC I have an Outlook account also that I had not yet enabled on the laptop, because I hardly use it, only when I travel (last in 2021) and from time to time for it to be updated.

In the second image you can see that when I click on the MozThund icon, the "home page" of my main email appears, which, when you click on settings, you can see 4 of my 5 accounts.

I would be very happy if I could recover my way of seeing mail with Mozilla Thunderbird, because although I can see it via the web, it has no point of comparison.

Thaank you very much for your help.

To help me understand, - can you use the Yahoo account? - can you use the gmail account? - what, specifically, is not working for you?

Hi David.

Yahoo is an account I canceled a few years ago.

I only use GMAIL on 4 accounts, 1 HOTMAIL account (System) and 1 OUTLOOK account.

I can see the GMAIL emails on the Gmail website, also on my cell phone.

One of my sons (42), who sometimes gets me out of trouble (lives in another city) or installs things for me, doesn't use Thunderbird, and says he doesn't know.

When I click on the Mozilla Thunderbird icon, the "Mail" / "Accounts" / "Advanced Features" page appears, but the drop-down menu on the left where I see my accounts and their archive folders does not appear, so I do not have access to my emails via Mozilla.

When I try to post an email from a website link, Mozilla's "Compose" window pops up, but when I try to send it, it says it can't find the account and I have to cancel it

This may seem extreme, but since your accounts are IMAP, I suggest you consider starting over. by that, I suggest: - make a backup of the profile so that nothing is lost - delete the thunderbird folder at c:\users\<yourid>\appdata\roaming - reinstall thunderbird - reactivate your accounts - use tools>import>import from a file to select your addressbook of abook.sqlite from the backup that you did . - then, with Thunderbird not running, make a full backup of the profile.

In your first post, you indicated that you did something to corrupt the profile, and I do not have the knowledge to figure all of that out. I can see problems in your profile and a fresh start may work best.

Hi David.

I'm not sure I can do all this, but since you mentioned importing, I've looked at "tools", I've clicked on "import" and I'm wondering if I click on "next" what the SW would do, but I don't want to risk losing data, because it seems like everything is in there.

Sure, the option you propose seems like the right one, but I don't know how to make an IMAP backup that I can later rescue, because if I don't do it right, after I've removed roaming...

I'm sorry to have gotten you into this mess, but the years diminish my mental agility and I'm not strong in SW, although I was an electronic technician (HW) from 1966 to 1993 repairing German computer components, until the cheapening of electronics and the increase in the importance of the internal SW, made Siemens-Nixdorf close.

Thank you. Best regards.

This is easier than it sounds. - to make backup, exit thunderbird and copy c:\users\<yourid>\appdata\roaming\thunderbird to an external drive. That's it. - you will see that reinstalling is simpler and cleaner than trying to fix it all.

OK, maybe I'll try, it doesn't seem complicated, or I'll wait for my son to come. Whatever it turns out to be, I'll tell you. Maybe we'll settle it so you can close the matter. Thank you.

Good morning, David.

Well, I've already pinpointed out how to make AppData visible. It was a matter of translation, that is, going to the "Vista" tab in Spanish and translating "Ver" which is similar, but not the same. You see my clumsiness.

Once I saw the Thunderbird folder, I copied it to an external SD card, but something unexpected happened to me and I don't know if what I did was correct or not, because at the end of the copy of about 2.83 GB, a window came out like the one I attached the first 3 examples, indicating that such a file was going to be copied without the "Properties" (because the file has "Properties" that cannot be copied in the new location) which doesn't seem right to me, but the options are "OK", "Skip" or "Cancel". I have chosen to "accept", because if I click OMIT, I guess there have been 21 files that have been copied without these "Properties" and I think that it is not a 100% copy and I do not dare to delete Thunderbird.

When in doubt, I have changed the name of the saved folder somewhat, and I have copied Thunderbird again, but this time, I have clicked on "Skip" and it is also saved on the same mSD-64 card.

¿What will should I do?

Thank you for your patience.

I would use the file you accepted, not the one where you skipped.
