unable to edit MS Word document in Windows 11 Home Edition

Trying to edit an MS Word document which was created in Windows 10 Home Edition. I googled the issue and tried the suggestion given which was to change the permission setting from "protect document" to "enable editing." I was not able to change the setting as recommended. Not sure what else to try. I need to get this issue fixed once and for all because I had the same issue last year. Do I have to purchase and install MS Office 365 in order to do what I am trying to do? Please help!

Firefox isn't Microsoft and those require the actual MS Office program to work on word docs. Also Firefox is just a browser it can't edit Word docs. There are free alternative to Office that can open and create word docs but that is something you need to look into as this is site if for Firefox product/software issue help.
