Hi. Firefox is my main browser and I use it also on my business corporate laptop under Win64bit. Only recently each time Firefox needs to install an update, a window pops up asking for permission of the admin (and I am not the admin), so I have to call the IT dpt and ask an admin to log in and give its authorization. The IT team told me that it's not a problem of the corporate firewall and it's up to Mozilla to set the update process so as to avoid asking a high level authorization. This problem is becoming very annoying, as the Firefox updates are usually very frequent. Can you do something to fix it? Thanks, kind regards Fabrizio Venice, Italy

That is a IT issue to deal with-they can control the updates they are pulling fast one on you. When any software especially business or institution laptops requires updates that is for IT to update not the user since they aren't the Admin. Edge, Chrome, Firefox will update themselves and will require updating. If the computer is company or institution owned it's up to the IT of those department to do the update. Also one shouldn't use business computer for personal usage as anything you do on it they can see and follow. So use your own personal computer to do personal task.

Make that you have installed the Mozilla Maintenance Service and accepted the UAC dialog.

Check that Firefox isn't set to run as Administrator.

You can open the Properties of the Firefox desktop shortcut via the right-click context menu and check the "Compatibility" tab.

Make sure all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.

  • Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
  • "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected

Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program folder.
