Is it possible to have a link open in the current window, but use MMB to open a new tab at the same time?

I remember using Firefox before and when I clicked a regular link , it would open it in the current tab, but when I used my MMB, it would open a new tab. I can get either one to work individually, but not at the same time. Is there a way to have both active at the same time?

You want to click a link with the middle button/scroll wheel, and have the link open in a new tab AND have the link ALSO opens in the original tab? Currently, you would need to middle-click then left-click to get that. I don't think there is a built-in way to combine both opens into one click. Maybe someone else has an idea.

No, not like that. I meant that if I open a link with the LMB, it opens it in the current tab (For example, if I see something on Reddit or Twitter). But then if I see something interesting on the page and a use the MMB to open it in a new tab so I can have it for after I finish with the current page. I can get my Firefox to do one or the other, but they seem mutually exclusive. If I want the MMB to open the a new tab, the LMB clicking on a link also open a new tab. If I want the LMB to open the link in the current tab, the MMB opens it in the same tab as well.

Note that you can hold the Ctrl key and left-click for opening a link in a new tab, so you can left-click twice and hold the Ctrl key dwon for the second left-click.

Could it be a coincidence? A left-click will open the link where the page specifies. A page can specify a new window using either a target="_blank" attribute on the link or the window.open() script command. (By default, Firefox diverts those new windows to new tabs instead.) It shouldn't matter whether you recently middle-clicked that link or any other link, Firefox should just follow the code in the page.

@cor-el: I used to do it all with only mouse buttons. @jscher2000: I wouldn't have a clue. If Firefox itself is fine and those websites being weird, then I guess I'll just deal with it. I'll adapt and get used to it eventually.

Thank you both for the help!

If there are some sites you have questions about, you could compare Firefox with how they behave in a different browser.
