I keep getting the message "server imap.aol.com has disconnected". Suggestion is that either the server has gone down or there's a network problem. I have asked aol about this and their answer is that if the wifi connection is ok (it is) it's something going wrong in Thunderbird.

It dosen't happen when email is incoming, but can happen if I'm sending an email, or moving to the inbox an email imappropriately sent into junk or bulk mail folders.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Reduce the cached connections to 3

Right click on mail account name in Folder Pane and select 'Settings' Select 'Server Settings' for imap account click on 'Advanced...' button. Maximum number of connections to cache - set this to 3 click on 'OK'

Exit Thunderbird and wait for a good 10 minutes to ensure server has closed connections. Start Thunderbird.

Report back on whether this improves the issue.

What are your server settings, and are you connecting through a VPN?

I have imap.aol.com on 993 and smtp.aol.com on 465; for both servers, SSL/TLS, OAuth2, User Name = email address.

I have all the settings as you describe, and nothing in settings seems wrong. I do not have VPN. Diane Jones
