Well you have the error from your mail provider. What is their take on the error they issue?

My guess is you are still logged into your account using mailwasher. But personally I simply don't understand the function or purpose of mailwasher, other than to make mail harder to manage because you are doing it in multiple locations using disparate applications.

If you just let spam go to the spam folder and trained Thunderbird spam filter you would probably never see most of it at all. Instead you are logging into your mail server, and downloading the mail (you can not see what is not on your computer, despite the stories about before you download it) and manually doing what Thunderbird does with a learning filter automatically.

Some security points;

  • Downloading mail from your account does not advise the sender you got it, unless you change Thundergbbird default with regard to remote images.
  • Downloading mail will not execute any scripts in the mail so it can not install anything.
  • Displaying mail does not execute any scripts or install anything.
  • Any anti virus product worth having will detect malware in attachments as soon as you try and access them.
