How to I turn off this annoying pop up that wants to bypass my Trash Folder. I like my Trash Folder. It keeps me from being an idiot and losing important things because of a misclick or because I didn't need something I later find out I did. I have been using e-mail since the early Compuserve days 30 years ago, gave that up for Thunderbird.

Sorry, the dialog is actually confusing. The process is described at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/compacting-folders Answering the popup dialog will NOT cause messages to be deleted. The recommended action is 'proceed', so that Thunderbird can do normal maintenance. And a further possible action is to mark the checkbox before 'proceed', so that you are no longer prompted.

Version 91 comes out in several weeks, in which the language of the compact dialog has been greatly improved. When you install version 91, if compact causes problems, please create a new support topic.
