until yesterday, Firefox had the same to toolbar settings as everything else. Then YOU updated me and the toolbar now only has HORRIBLE appearance. How to turn the clock back and use the Windows settings for everything?

I guess changing to another browser is the only solution? Do you suggest Edge or Chrome.

Holy Ssh** this firefox forum is so *##$ frustrating. They screw up firefox, by making it more like chrome, then give you NO way to tell them to go back!

No one knows how to turn the clock back. Maybe the answer is to switch to Chrome or The Edge?

Do you mean the drop down menu items all have large font and excessive space and are a real pain to use as now you have a load of scrolling going on ? I have this problem and there is a bug report on this, so perhaps you would like to add a please fix this in the bug. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1713942

Hi All, it's hard to help with "horrible" -- specific complaints are much more helpful.

Old versions of Firefox are always available, but not recommended. There's more info in this article: Install an older version of Firefox.

To get the discussion started:

Tab Bar Appearance

Users have raised a number of concerns:

(1) Low contrast of black on gray is harder to see (2) Takes up more space vertically (3) Prefer to have separators between inactive/background tabs (4) Using text to indicate playing/muted state is harder to see at a glance than the old icon (5) Prefer tabs to be "connected"

For #1, if you prefer the colors of the "Default" theme from Firefox 57-88, someone created an add-on theme that emulates it. You can give it a try here:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/photon-colors/

If that color doesn't suit you, the Firefox Color extension lets you create your own theme:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/firefox-color/

For #2, you could take a look at Compact mode. More info in: Compact mode workaround in Firefox.

For #2-#5, you can restyle your tab bar by creates a userChrome.css file. It's a bit of project for first-timers, but if these issues are priorities for you, I'm happy to explain in more detail.

Finally, for testing purposes, the developers left a preference to switch the tab bar and address bar between new style and old style in Firefox 89. This is not expected to continue in Firefox 91, but maybe you want to use it for now.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste browser.proton.enabled and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the preference to switch between true (new style) and false (old style)

To Jscher 2000 and Toad Hall What I am trying to say is that I simply do not get on with the new taskbar theme that Firefox have forced onto me without asking and without recourse. How to go go back to my comfort zone and my MS Windows themes? See the screen shot of the horrible effect Richard

Hi Richard, I don't know what your Firefox looked liked before, so I can't answer that specifically. However, did you try any of the workarounds in my earlier reply?

JSCHER2000 Sorry tried to work out what to do but could not follow you. What I want is the old MS Windows style and it would seem, that to get that, I must say goodbye to Firefox. Pit, because I loved using it since the old Netscape days. Thanks for responding, not your fault that I lack the knowledge to follow you. Richard

Hi Richard, I probably listed too many options in the same reply. Did you try installing the Photon Colors theme to see whether that helps?

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/photon-colors/

jscher2000 OK, it switched the wishy washy grey to an ominous looking black that is (MAYBE) slightly easier to see and differentiate the tabs (I often have 20+ tabs at once - as shown in the screenshots). However, it is nowhere near as good as the old one was - IF IT AINT BROKE, WHY FIX IT!!! Rgds Richard

Maybe coincidence BUT, ever since the annoying update, I am noticing little things going wrong in Firefox. E.G. - click something and something unexpected happens. It does seem that "the powers that be" have !@C%^D up Firefox".

'TOOL BAR SETTINGS DISAPPEARING WHEN UPDATING FROM FIREFOX 89 TO 91:'

Same thing happened to me when I went up, from 89 to 91 ... However, I was lucky and somehow managed to get it looking OK and close to the original. Hooray!! But I have lost a neat little feature that was with the Bookmarks on their toolbar ... one click and it took a screen shot, which you had a choice of the 'whole' screen or just the visible. And which I could save directly to a folder in my system. The best and easiest I've come across. But now gone and I suspect along with some other features ... I'm not sure that going to 91 was a good idea?

BTW: does anyone else know the Addon/Extension I am talking about? And if so where I might be abl;e to find it to download?

Firefox does provide a method of doing a screendump. Info in Help Article : https://blog.mozilla.org/en/products/firefox/how-to-capture-screenshots-with-firefox/

Screenshot is available in right click menu list and you customise Firefox to put a button on toolbar. All info at that link.

Many keyboards offer a 'Prt Scr' key which takes a screendump.

Hi Nick, if none of these are available --

-- check to make sure the feature is not disabled:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste extensions.screenshots.disabled and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If the preference is bolded and has a value of true, double-click it to restore the default value of false
