I cannot set Firefox as my default browser. When trying I get a little window with program choices (see screen shot). Using windows 8.1 with Avast (already this sucker did some changes to Firefox and opening mail link settings without asking)

Hello,
Lately scammers have been posting   (mainly in threads where no reply has been posted yet),   claiming to be Mozilla experts and asking users to either call a so-called toll-free phone number or giving them a link to a site, where they are promised to get expert help.
These posts of course are scams.
Hopefully informing you about this will scare them off and you won't see such scam post.

Good for you  !

Avast is a real pain in the you-know-where;   my advise would be to get rid of it.
All you really need is Windows built-in Defender and a safe browser like Firefox.

Would you be so kind as to mark your own post as Chosen Solution ?
