I once had a corporate gmail account that I no longer use. It doesn't appear currently in my list of configured email accounts. Thunderbird has recently been asking me to log in to this account. It may be still out in Gmail as the company is defunct and possibly no one has deleted that domain (@(companyname).com)). I don't care whether it's out there, just to get my Thunderbird account to ignore its existance and quit asking me when I start Thunderbird to log in.

Besides mail, did you ever set up a calendar or contact syncing with this account in TB? There might be an add-on that is trying to log in, e.g. Provider for Google Calendar or gContactSync.

I was using a calendar add-on at that time to access a calendar associated with this corporate account. However, now I use the calendar that Mozilla put into the newer versions of TB. I don't show any other add-ons. Is there an old config file somewhere that would have this old info?

TB has always had the Lightning Calendar, but to access network calendars such as from Google, the Provider add-on is often used. If you have removed the Provider add-on, and deleted the network calendar associated with that account, but still get login requests, you can search the Config. editor for the account in case there are leftover references.

Tools/Options/Advanced/General/Config. editor.

The sign in request has been showing up very regularly this afternoon. The wording suggests that the request is coming from Google so not the problem of thunderbird. However, the window it puts up has TB associated with it. I suppose if I knew my old password to the account I could do something about it wit Google, but I don't. I would like TB to ignore these requests since I no longer have this email account configured, i think.

Is it possible you deleted the mail account, calendar and Google-related add-ons, but the account was attached to another account as an Identity? Tools/Account Settings, select an account in the left pane, then Manage Identities in the right pane.

If the login request is too annoying, you can always create a new profile from Help/Troubleshooting Information, about:profiles, add your accounts, and transfer contacts, local mail etc. from the old profile, which is unaffected.

Tools - Manage Accounts, wow, westheimerenergy.com is listed on the left. However on the right there are no identities associated with it and no "delete this" selection availble. How to just remove it from the list on the left ... erase any indication of it.

btw, I have attached a screen shot of the message I'm trying to stop.

I just noticed something new. I had a top level folder/account called Local Folder and I had about 20 folders for sorting and saving mail in the Local Folder directory. That folder is no longer there and all of those local folders are now in the special account, westheimerenergy.com. Did Mozilla mess with my organization recently?

Your picture shows that Provider for Google Calendar is trying to login. If you don't use Google calendar anymore, remove the Provider for Google Calendar add-on from Tools/Add-ons/Extensions.

If you have any mail in the west... account folders, copy them to Local Folders subfolders, then if you want to remove the account, select it in the left pane of Tools/Account Settings, then Account Actions at the bottom left, Remove Account.

I do use gmail calendar but associated with my own smcadoojr@gmail.com so I shouldn't delete the extension? How do I get it to ignore the westheimerenergy email/calendar reference?

more options

You should keep the add-on for your own calendar, but right-click the calendar on the left side of the Calendar tab, Properties, and check that the Email associated with the calendar is not the west... account. Obviously, if you have other calendars, check that they have the correct Email.

Well, I moved all of my mail folders which had been in "Local Folders" but somehow merged into westheimerenergy.com account. westheimerenergy.com is now totally empty and I opened account settings, highlighted it and clicked "Remove Account", "Ok" which is supposed to remove the account. It didn't. I closed TB and reopened and it is still there. What do I do now to get rid of it??

more options

Open Tools/Account Settings, select the westheimer account in the left pane, and post a screenshot of what you see.

When I select "Account Actions" the first 4 items are bold but the "Remove Account" choice is not bold and doesn't seem to have any effect.

I see that the westheimer 'account' in the picture is actually Local Folders. Somehow, the Account Name was changed, which is inadvisable. Local Folders is a 'special account' and cannot be removed. If you have something else named Local Folders, it is probably misnamed, and may be the spurious gmail account you're trying to remove. What is the name of the account at the top of Account Settings, that is not shown in your picture?

more options

I look at the account settings and find that at the top for my two real email accounts it says "Account Settings - email name" but for the Westheimerenergy account there is no email name at the top.

I also looked around for a "Local Folders" and found one under "inbox" in my smcadoojr@gmail.com account. The folder is empty. I have no idea why or how that happened.

We seem to be making a little progress and I want to say thank you for sticking with me on this with your expertise.

Start by renaming the so-called 'westheimer' account back to its proper name, Local Folders. Then, post a picture of Account Settings that shows all the content of the left pane. I suspect one of the accounts is the west...@gmail.com account that continues to try to login through the Provider add-on.

Renamed to Local Folders (as you can see), moved all the old local folders I had stored in the gmail account back into the local folders area. I searched everywhere for any reference to smcadoo@westheimerenergy.com and found two which I removed.

When i exit TB and restart I still bet the password request for the westheimer email count.

I'm puzzled as you probably are.

more options

At this point, if the password request is too distracting, you could create a new profile, add your ev1.net and gmail accounts, and install the Provider add-on and add your google calendar. Other items like Local Folders mail and address books can be copied from the old profile. To create a new profile, Help/Troubleshooting Information, about:profiles. The old profile would be untouched, and could be launched from the same about:profiles tab.

Is it possible to edit the file containing profile info? I'm pretty handy with text editors and do have a S/W background (albeit not in windows)

more options

You can open the prefs.js file in the profile folder with a text editor. But it's usually better to make changes through the Config. editor (prefs.js contains the config. preferences that are non-defaults). For example, instead of deleting a line in prefs.js, it's better to locate the pref. in Config. editor and right-click, Reset or Modify.

But a new profile will probably take less time to correct the issue, as well as being safer and more effective than editing the old profile. Just like reinstalling Windows is sometimes faster and better than trying to repair it.
