Christ1 was kind enough to refer me to section dealing with backing up and restoring a profile. Backed up my profile to a thumb drive. I then deleted all but 10 emails from trash folder to see if restoration would restore them. When I tried restoring the profile backup, received the following error message: "Cannot remove folder 5sm7hxs2.default.sbd.sbd. The filename or extension is too long." Do I rename the file to delete the second .sbd? Any solution/suggestion most welcome. Pls cc jobby@att.net, as I can't find my previous question or Christ1 reply on this site.

re : 5sm7hxs2.default.sbd.sbd.

That really does not sound correct. A profile name will by default be called: xxxxxxxx.default where the x's are letters and numbers.

So it is likely '5sm7hxs2.default' is the profile name.

It should not have any .sbd extensions. I'm wondering if MozBackup messed up things.

It would help if you could post some images: Post images that show the contents of the following folders: Make sure to choose the View > Details, so it is a list.

  • C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows user name>\Application Data\'Thunderbird' folder
  • C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows user name>\Application Data\Thunderbird\'Profiles' folder
  • C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows user name>\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\'5sm7hxs2.default' folder
  • C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows user name>\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\'5sm7hxs2.default.sbd.sbd' folder
