Thunderbird won't startup where I left off when last closed

I have Thunderbird version 60.8.0 (32-bit) on my Windows 10 (64-bit) machine. I also have an addon called "Folder Pane View Switcher". That addon allowed me to view either all my folders or just "favorites" & could switch views in the navigation pane.

I just upgraded Windows from 1809 to 1903. Before the update, when I started Thunderbird, it would open to whatever email folder that it was in when I exited & the folder view would remain the same. It would also open maximized if that's the way I closed Thunderbird.

It now opens like this most of the time: (see uploaded image please) Before upgrading to 1903, it would: 1. Open maximized when closed that way. 2. Open only showing the "Favorite" folders, when closed that way. 3. Open in whatever email folder I was looking at when last closed.

I've looked at all the support discussions on this issue, but can't solve this problem. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance,

Thank you for your help.

Sometimes it will open as it was when closed & sometimes it doesn't. I'm wondering if it has something to do with Sandboxie because I open Thunderbird within Sandboxie. I never had a problem before, but maybe something is happening with Sandboxie after the Windows 10 update.

After following your directions, I've been experimenting for a couple hours. I just opened & closed Thunderbird about 10 times. If I "disabled forced programs" in Sandboxie, Thunderbird will open the way it was closed (outside of Sandboxie). If I then open Thunderbird within Sandboxie, it will open properly the first time. But after I closed Thunderbird & reopened it in Sandboxie, it opened the way I showed in my attachment.

This doesn't happen on my other Windows XP machine & didn't happen before I updated Windows 10. Any ideas of what's happening or what else I can do?

Thank you again.

Select Help/Troubleshooting Information, click Open Folder to open the profile in File Explorer, close TB, delete or rename session.json, then restart TB and see if it now opens to the way it was when last closed.

The functions of the Switcher add-on can be mostly achieved by using the built-in View/Toolbars/Folder Pane Toolbar.

I don't know enough about Sandboxie to say what effect it has on TB, but your setup appears to work properly when SB is bypassed. You might want to consider using the built-in W10 sandbox utility.

Thank you for all your help. I do think the problem is Sandboxie, not Thunderbird, & they don't seem to be responsive. I will mark this solved.
