After Thunderbird's been running for a while - 12 hours? - it stops retrieving messages
Clicking on Get Messages does nothing. Thunderbird (60.8.0) isn't hung - it just won't get messages.
The 12-hour figure above is just to give you a rough idea so that you know we're not talking about minutes and we're not talking about days. But I haven't really checked to see how long it takes for the problem to pop up.

Does this seem to occur after computer is awakened from hibernation/sleep mode ?
It's a desktop and it never goes into hibernation or sleep.
Thanks for taking a look!
Is this a POP or IMAP mail account?
What settings have you got set up in Account Settings: Right click on mail account in Folder Pane and select 'Settings' Select 'Server Settings' Are the following selected ? 'Check for new messages at start up' 'Check for new messages every XX minutes' Q: How many minutes is set in above setting? If pop: 'Automatically download new messages' If imap: 'Allow immediate server notifications when new messages arrive'
In Menu icon > 'Activity Manager'
It should list when the account checked with server.
Can you see the times when it started and when it stopped - what were they? This would give an indication of how long it was working.
pop - yes, all 3 are enabled. Every 5 minutes. Remember, TB works exactly as it should for a while, and then it just stops checking for messages. Clicking on Get Messages does nothing.
Naturally, like the proverbial watched pot that won't boil, TB is still getting my messages. I'll post again when it stops.
Either the problem has corrected itself or TB is out to get me. Going on 3 days now and it's still retrieving messages!
All of a sudden, TB refused to cooperate - it keeps downloading my messages! I'm going to declare this problem tentatively solved. Should it recur, I'll post back here.
Thank you, Toad-Hall!
