Replicate folder structure in TB to Gmail

I am using TB for my Gmail account and using it with POP3. I have an intricate folder structure with loads of emails in them that have accumulated over the years.

Now I’m wondering if I would benefit from switching to IMAP and if this would “automatically” recreate my folder structure in the gmail web GUI. If not, is there a way to do this except for doing it manually?

IMAP does sound like the solution your looking for,

Just remember that IMAP is synchronized so does not form a local archive, merely a synchronized copy so you don't have to wait for individual email to download when you select them.
