recent problem, email from inbox is lost when moving it to a subfolder

this is a new problem I have never had before, it is recent. I move my emails from my inbox to subfolders for organization. Doing this for years. Two emails with large attachments (happened twice as I asked to get the email again) came into my inbox in the last few days. I moved them both to the subfolder but they do not show up there, they are gone from my inbox too and are not in the trash folder.

so have disappeared. WHY? I have never had this problem before with emails with large attachments.
