Lightning doesn't appear on updated Thunderbird 52.9 using Windows 7, and when I try to reinstall it I get an email with Lightning as an attachment

I installed the update to Thunderbird yesterday, going to 52.9, and the calendar didn't show up. So I came to this site and tried to fix it by downloading a new version of Lightning, but when I try to launch it, all I get is an email with Lightning as an attachment. I'm using Windows 7. I depend on my calendar, so this is very frustrating! Should I try downgrading Thunderbird? Will that work? Thanks in advance for any help with this!

What does "try to launch it"mean? Did you install Lightning? If not that would be where to start. If you have downloaded the Lightning file go to the add on tab and click extensions. Click the gear icon and select Install from File. The easier way is when at add ons-extensions, enter Lightning in the search box and install
